New technologies have revealed opportunities for teaching and learning that have never existed before. At the same time, our students enter college far more prepared than any students in the past. For the first time, we have the tools to modernize our curriculum, experiment with innovative teaching methods, redefine how classes are presented both on and off campus, and even rethink what constitutes a course and when it can be taken.
Research-informed Teaching and Learning
Never before have universities been able to rely on scientific methods with such precision to determine if a particular teaching method or curriculum is effective. Project 2021 will build a research infrastructure that assesses and informs new teaching, advising, and delivery methods with the goal of developing an educational system that is efficient, cost-effective, and life changing for students.
An Optimal and Life-long Student Experience
A university education is part of a life-long experience. Being a student at UT Austin should promote a sense of belongingness and pride that will linger forever. College should not be thought of as a 4-year experience. Rather, Project 2021 seeks to encourage our students to take our courses and participate in our social gatherings for the rest of their lives. For this to happen, we plan to enhance students’ sense of belongingness and commitment to the university community and mission, and to strengthen their social ties with peers and faculty.
